Ware Hito Ni Au Kakejiku, Authentic Japanese Scroll - Since old times, Japanese homes have always been very minimalistic in their aesthetics, with few pieces of furniture and decorations. When it comes to wall decorations however, there is one prominent exception with hanging scrolls known in Japanese as Kakejiku (掛け軸). There is a wide range of depictions that are the subject of these traditional scrolls such as landscapes, holy imagery, animals, and texts in calligraphy style.
The text on this scroll reads: Ware, hito ni au (我逢人). This can be translated as: In meeting another person, I encounter myself. This is a Zen-style phrase. It suggests that a true meeting with another person is not just casual contact, but a meaningful encounter. Through meeting others, one also comes to know oneself.
