This is where the name Tsuridōrō (釣り灯籠) comes from, which roughly translates to hanging lantern. There are multiple methods to fix the light inside the lantern. Think of a candle or oil lamp, but electricity is also a widely used option. The light shining from inside the lantern, and silhouettes it casts, results in a wonderful warm ambiance.
This beautiful lantern is decorated with the emblem of the Toyotomi clan, the Toyotomi Kamon (豐臣氏家紋). Toyotomi Hideyoshi is a well-known member of this clan and one of the most important figures in Japanese history.
