Jusanju no Sekito, Stone Garden Pagoda - Pagoda buildings, Tō (塔) in Japanese, originated in ancient India from where the phenomenon spread throughout different parts of Asia. Today the pagoda is synonymous with traditional Chinese and Japanese architecture. The high pagodas symbolize the sacred mountains of legends and folklore. The top floor was usually the place where valuable treasures, jewels and artifacts were safely stored. This makes the pagoda a symbol of wealth as well.
Centuries ago the pagodas architecture served as a blueprint for the creation of a stone garden ornament in Japan. The stone pagoda, known as Sekitō (石塔) in Japanese, is the perfect addition to a Japanese garden because of its symbolism and unique presence.
This particular pagoda has thirteen tiers, which in Japan is known as Jūsanju no Sekitō(十三重石塔). The ornament is entirely based on the famous stone pagoda that can be found in Uji Park, Kyoto.
