Jizo Ishizo, Japanese Stone Buddhist Statue
Item description - YO07010207
Jizo Ishizo, Japanese Stone Buddhist Statue - Stone Jizo statues, Jizō Ishizō (地蔵石像) in Japanese, are the most commonly found type of Buddhist statues throughout Japan. The statues always receive a lot of love and admiration as they depict the guardian deity of children and travellers, Jizō Bosatsu. Within Buddhism, Jizō Bosatsu is described as a Bodhisattva which is a deity in continuing pursuit of bettering the wellbeing of everything around them. In this way they are on the path to enlightenment like Buddha.
Unlike other Bodhisattva deities that are often depicted with a crown and extravagant jewels, Jizō Bosatsu has the more modest appearance of a travelling monk. He is often depicted on top of a lotus flower pedestal and with a wish-granting jewel in his left hand.
