Antique Buddhist temple bell from Japan. The temple bell, known as Tsurigane (釣鐘) in Japanese, was used in Buddhist temples to summon the monks for prayer or to indicate the time of day. Unlike Western bells, the Tsurigane are rang from the outside by slamming a wooden beam against it.
