The garden bridge became one of the most significant parts of the traditional Japanese garden during the Heian period (794-1185). The philosophy behind the garden bridge is that is symbolizes the crossing between the mortal world and the afterlife. It allows one to rid oneself of worldly burdens and experience inner piece, purity and becoming one with nature.
This wonderful antique bridge is hand carved from Shirakawa stone in Japan. It will fit perfectly in any garden and can be placed over streams, ditches and even dry rivers of pebble stones, known for its use in the famous Zen gardens (枯山水). The bridge can serve as a purely aesthetic element, but it can of course also be used to go across.
