This antique water pot, Mizubachi (水鉢) in Japanese, is made of glazed terracotta. Traditionally they are used as ponds, filled with water, plants like lotus flowers and even fish. In the world of Bonsai, Mizubachi are an authentic way to store water that is used for watering the trees.
Next to filling the Mizubachi with water, it can also serve as a beautiful flower pot.
This Mizubachi features a prominent dragon that can be seen spanning all sides. This is where the name Ryū (竜), the Japanese word for dragon, originates from.
