This antique water pot, Mizubachi (水鉢) in Japanese, is made of glazed terracotta. Traditionally they are used as ponds, filled with water, plants like lotus flowers and even fish. In the world of Bonsai, Mizubachi are an authentic way to store water that is used for watering the trees.
Next to filling the Mizubachi with water, it can also serve as a beautiful flower pot.
The lower side of this specific Mizubachi type features a hole so water can easily be refreshed. This hole can be closed with a cork.
This Mizubachi has a very beautiful deep blue color. A color that the Japanese call Konpeki (紺碧).
