This particular Ishibumi features a beautiful carved Jisei no Ku (辞世の句), a Japanese afterlife poem. This particular poem is attributed to the famous Edo-period writer Jippensha Ikku (十返舎一九, 17651831). The Japanese text reads Kono yo o ba dorya oitoma ni senkō no kemuri to tomo ni hai sayōnara (此世をば どりゃお暇に 線香の 煙とともに 灰左様なら). This can be translated as: Well then, I shall take my leave of this world together with the smoke of the incense. Well then, farewell.
