Ishihyochu, Antique Japanese Signpost - stone signposts, Ishihyōchū (石標柱) in Japanese, are often used in Japan to provide directions in a highly authentic way. One can find them near tempels, shrines, Japanese gardens, public parks, stations, bath houses and many more places. The Japanese text is traditionally carved by hand.
This Ishihyōchū has carved text on both sides. Because of old age it is rather difficult to make out some of the characters. The upper Kanji character on both sides is Migi (右), which means right. This proves that the signpost gives directions to the right, making it fit perfectly along a path going to the right. The lower two characters are in Hiragana and read Mono (もの), which means things. The imperfect condition of the Ishihyōchū wonderfully fits the philosophical concept of Wabi-Sabi.
