Ishibumi, Japanese Carved Memorial Stone

Item description - YO07010001
Memorial stones with carved text known as Ishibumi (碑) can be found all over Japan. The texts have a range of topics, for example the location that the stone is a part of. The primary function of Ishibumi is to transfer knowledge to future generations.
The text on the front of this Ishibumi refers to its origin, but unfortunately it has become hard to decipher due to old age. The text states that it belonged to a student of the Matsuo-ryu school of tea ceremony, specifically the seventh master named Matsuo Goshu (松尾宗五) from Nagoya.
The side of the Ishibumi features text describing when the stone was made in the traditional Japanese calendar. Meiji Year 26 Month 5 (明治二十六年五月), which translates to May of 1893.
