Goju Sekito, Japanese Stone Pagoda - Pagoda buildings, Tō (塔) in Japanese, originated in ancient India from where the phenomenon spread throughout different parts of Asia. Today the Pagoda is synonymous with traditional Chinese and Japanese architecture. The high Pagodas symbolize the holy mountains of legends and folklore. The top floor of a Pagoda was usually the place where valuable treasures, jewels and artifacts were safely stored.
Centuries ago the Pagodas architecture served as inspiration for stone garden ornaments in Japan. The stone Pagodas, known as Sekitō (石塔) in Japanese, are a perfect addition to the traditional Japanese garden because of the symbolism and their unique presence. A stone Pagoda can add a one-of-a-kind essence to a Japanese garden like no other garden ornament could.
This particular Pagoda has five tiers, which is known as Gojū Sekitō (五重石塔) in Japanese. These five tiers represent the primary elements of nature: Earth (the lowest tier), Water, Fire, Wind, and Void/Space (The highest tier).
