A Unique Courtyard Garden in an Authentic Kyoto Style
For a client in Sneek, the Netherlands, we were tasked with designing a Tsuboniwa (坪庭), which is Japanese for a courtyard garden. Initially, the Yokoso Crew visited the location to assess the area, space, light, and dimensions of the garden. We also captured photographs of the site to serve as a reference during the design process.

During our visit, we also engaged in discussions with the client about their wishes and preferences, a crucial aspect in developing a personalized Japanese garden. We presented the client with various pictures of existing Japanese gardens, asking them to select the ones that best aligned with their desires. Additionally, we requested them to select the pictures that least matched their preferences. This information served as the foundation for the design of the Tsuboniwa. The overarching concept was to create a Tsuboniwa enclosed by an Engawa (縁側), a Japanese covered veranda. With these considerations in mind, we commenced the design of the Tsuboniwa in a 3D environment.
