The perfect 3D design for our client, our Daimyō Yokoso provides the most authentic Japanese garden designs in 3D, offering exceptional true to life landscape architecture for both businesses and private individuals. A true Japanese garden forms a unique extension of your personal living space, so our garden designs are always tailor made by our architect with proper knowledge and understanding of the available space. It goes without saying that our client, the Daimyō, has all the desired room to influence the project and naturally has final say on every aspect. But from experience we can proudly say that our garden designs are almost always a perfect visualisation of the wishes and expectations.

The Daimyō, the owner of the garden, is just like in ancient Japan the most important person when developing a Japanese garden. During the Japanese Edo period, the era of the Samurai, the Daimyō had great power, influence and wealth. They lived in the most beautiful castles surrounded by mesmerizing gardens. This interesting piece of history formed the basis of our vision in realizing true Japanese gardens. Our mission is only completed when the garden perfectly fits the wishes of the Daimyō, our client, and rising above all expectations.

The true essence of a Japanese garden design Over the past decade, the Japanese garden has gained a wider appreciation and acknowledgement among Western garden designers, landscapers and hobbyists alike. The style is so unique in its form and guidelines that there is no real comparison in the world of landscape architecture. Central to a real Japanese garden is a composition based on a careful mix of various aspects such as traditional aesthetic, philosophy, and symbolism in natural elements. The natural elements, especially water and stone, are crucial within a Japanese garden. Water is the symbol of life and is constantly in motion, even if this is not visible. Stones are in contrast, the ultimate symbol of still life. They often symbolize calm islands or cliffs of safe land in a vivid ocean full of life. This ocean can be represented by a pond of water, but it often takes the shape of gravel raked in a traditional way to symbolize water.

In order to realize an authentic Japanese garden, various rules and guidelines that originated in ancient Japan have to be taken into account during the design process. For example, the correct placement of stones and rocks is only possible if the garden architect or landscaper has a great amount of experience, specialized insights and proper understanding of traditional aesthetics. A Japanese garden can come in a great variety of shapes and sizes. A correct composition is all that matters. Even the most narrow space can be transformed into a full-fledged Japanese garden. Certain techniques are implemented to make optimal use of the available space. The garden can for example be divided in different areas with each its own atmosphere and aesthetic value that connect to each other in a balanced way. Additionally, height differences and ponds can also result in a more spacious looking garden.

The Yokoso Design Process The design process is the first step towards your own personal Japanese garden. We would like to visit the site of the garden to get a complete understanding of the space and its existing elements. This visit also gives us the opportunity to discuss the details of the garden together with you. What are your wishes? How do you envision the garden? Additionally we also like to encourage you to create a moodboard of gardens that you like. Your vision of the garden will be an important factor to make sure that the design will be exactly as you want.

After the visit, our garden design team will start on the design of your Japanese dream garden. During the design process we always stay in close contact with our clients, keeping them fully updated along the way. After the design is completed, we would like to present it to you in the best way possible either on location or in our Yokoso studio. Once the design has been perfected it is yours, and we will further advise you on the realisation of the garden.
