Japanese Ornamental Stone - 0601-0033
Wonderful old stone from Kyoto Japan. This particular stone has been part of an original Japanese garden that was taken apart.
Rocks are used in nearly every Japanese garden. Some gardens feature rock as the main element, but most Japanese gardens use them in supporting roles as functional stones, pathways, edge stones, or landscape boulders. Japanese gardens generally use rock in subtle ways to evoke and mimick the qualities of the natural landscape. Japanese gardens also often feature large boulders that are sunk into berms and used for scenic effect. In ancient times rock setting was a very serious task.
