Japanese Stone Bridge, Shirakawa Ishibashi
The garden bridge became one of the most significant parts of the traditional Japanese garden during the Heian period (794-1185). The philosophy behind the garden bridge is that is symbolizes the crossing between the mortal world and the afterlife. It allows one to rid oneself of worldly burdens and experience inner piece, purity and becoming one with nature.
This wonderful antique bridge is hand carved from Shirakawa stone in Japan. It is the perfect solution to cross small meandering streams, ditches and even dry rivers of the dry rock garden or zen garden (枯山水).
