Ophiopogon Japonicus, Ja-no-Hige (ジャノヒゲ) in Japanese, is a very elegant kind of grass that is used in many Japanese gardens. The plants are famous for their deep natural color that adds a certain aesthetic value to every garden. The grass can grow to a height between 5 and 15 centimeters, making it a perfect groundcover.
Ophiopogon Japonicus is rather easy to maintain in comparison to other grasses. It has to be planted in a sunny or slightly shadowed part of the garden so it can reach its full potential. Additionally, the plants can easily be divided, after which it will relatively quickly spread. The blooming period is from May to July, the grass is the most beautiful during this time of year.
