Japanese Enkianthus Perulatus
Item description
The Enkianthus Perulatus is hardiest of the Enkianthus species or Furin Tsutsuji or Redvein Enkianthus, a medium-sized, narrow, upright, deciduous shrub. Its bright green glossy foliage gives brilliant coppery to red fall colors. The Enkianthus Perulatus is native to open woodlands in Japan from Hokkaido, Honshu and Shikoku. In spring it offers a profusion of bell-shaped campanula, creamy white flowers with red veins, similar to those of the distantly related Pieris.
Individual flowers resemble those of Pieris which is in the same family. Elliptic, serrate, medium green to bluish green leaves are crowded near the branch ends. Fall color is variable but at its best features quality red foliage with tones of orange, yellow and purple. Enkianthus Perulatus come in bonsai pruned style or as separate bowls.
