Hotoke no Atama, Buddha Head - YO23010113
Throughout history, Buddhism has greatly influences Japanese society. Buddhist symbols can nowadays be seen all over the country. Especially in and around temples, O-Tera (お寺) in Japanese, multiple images of Buddha can be spotted. This refers to full statues of Buddha, but also just the head of Buddha. The head of Buddha is described in Japanese as Hotoke no Atama (仏の頭). This Buddhist head originates from Bali, Indonesia, but was put on display in Japan many years ago.
