The Edo-gata Tōrō (江戸型灯篭) is very recognizable due to the combination of rounded shapes in the lower half with more straight shapes in the upper half. This lantern type originated from the Edo period of Japan, also known as the age of the Samurai, which was also the namesake of the lantern. The hand-carved details make this miniature ornament a perfect replica of the bigger version of the Edo-gata Tōrō.
