When thinking of traditional Japanese architecture, the first thing that comes to mind is the elegantly curved roofs constructed with metal grey roof tiles. Kawara (瓦) refers to a clay roof tile. Traditional roofs made of Kawara tiles are called Kawarabuki (瓦葺き) or Iraka (甍).
